Privacy Policy
Effective October 2026. This explains what Northwoods Investment LLC ("we") collects when you use the Marsh Finder web app (the "App").
The short version. Your GPS location stays on your phone unless you save it: a place you mark or a trail you record is backed up to your account, privately, if you're signed in. For the beta you have an account (your email, name and password), and your bird log is saved to it so we can see where the map is right and where it's wrong. We don't sell your data, and the App has no advertising trackers.
What stays on your phone
- Your GPS location. Used on your phone to show where you are and to run Guide me in. It is not sent to us, except as part of a place you mark, a trail you record, a bird-log pin, or a free pick you ask for near your location (below).
- Your last search and the map tiles you've viewed (for offline use). These are stored in your phone's browser and are deleted if you clear the site's data. A copy of your bird log, places, trails and free picks is kept here too, so they work with no signal. A trail being recorded is kept here point by point until you save or discard it.
What we receive
- Your account: your email address, the name you give, and your password, which we store only in scrambled (hashed) form that can't be turned back into the password. We also record when you joined, when you last signed in and which invite code you used.
- Your bird log: the pins you save (the spot, what you logged, your note and when) are sent to your account when you have signal. We review bird logs, together with other beta hunters' logs, to test and improve the map. We won't publish your pins or tell anyone where you hunt.
- Your places and trails ("My places"): the places you mark (location, type, name, note, date) and the trails you record (the GPS points along the way, and when) are sent to your account when you're signed in and have signal, so they're kept if you lose or change phones. They're private to you: we don't review them, use them to train or test the map, show them on our admin page, publish them, or tell anyone where you go. If you're not signed in, they stay on this phone only. Deleting a place or trail in the App deletes it from your account.
- Your free picks: when you ask for a suggested spot, the point you ask about (your location or a searched place) is sent to our server, and we keep the spot shown and that point with your account so it stays in your list and counts toward your 5. Our admin page shows only how many picks an account has used.
- Wind and tide (Pro): when you open the planner, your phone asks the National Weather Service and NOAA directly for the forecast and tides at that spot's location. Those are U.S. government services; we don't see or keep those requests.
- Searches you type (an address, town or coordinates) are passed through our server to the U.S. Census Bureau geocoder and to OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service to find the place. We don't keep a log of searches tied to you.
- Map and spot requests. Like any website, our host (Cloudflare) processes your IP address and the files your phone requests in order to deliver them, and may keep short-lived technical logs.
- If you subscribe: your email and payment details go to Stripe, which processes the payment. We receive your email, your Stripe customer ID and your subscription status, not your full card number. Stripe's privacy policy covers what Stripe does with your data.
- If you reset your password (or sign in by email), we send the link through our email provider.
Cookies
The App sets a cookie that keeps you signed in, and, if you subscribe, one that remembers whether your subscription is active. There are no advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
How we use it
To run the App, test and improve the map using beta bird logs, process payments and refunds, sign you in, answer support requests, and send notices about your subscription (such as a price change). We don't sell or rent personal information, and we don't share it except with the service providers named above, or when the law requires it.
Keeping and deleting it
Stripe keeps payment records as financial law requires. To have your account, bird log, places, trails and picks deleted, contact us from your account's email address; we'll delete them unless we're required to keep a record. Your account and bird log are stored with our host, Cloudflare.
Children
The App is not directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information.
Changes and contact
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll note it in the App. Questions: [email protected], Northwoods Investment LLC, New Hampshire.
